Built for Perth
builders

You know how to build. Running a building business is a different job entirely. Hypotential helps Perth residential builders and renovators price properly, manage cash flow and build a business that doesn't fall apart when a job runs over.

Sound Familiar?

The problems every Perth builder hits

These show up when you're running a building business in the Perth market, and they compound fast if you don't get on top of them.

Where Are You Now?

Three stages. One path.

Most building business owners are at one of three stages. Each one needs a different type of support, and each maps to a different Hypotential membership.

Phase 1

Operator: you are the business

You're on the tools most days and revenue flows through you personally. This is where most building businesses start. The goal at this phase is to separate yourself from the day to day, get your pricing right, document what you do, and build the structure that lets you step back.

  • Know exactly what every job costs and what to charge
  • Quoting, scheduling and invoicing that doesn't rely on memory
  • A clear picture of where your time is actually going
  • The foundation to hire your first person with confidence
Phase 2

Team leader: you manage the work

You have people on the tools and the jobs are running, but you're still the bottleneck. Every decision, every problem, every quote still comes back to you. At this phase, the work is building systems and people that can operate without your constant input.

  • Processes your team can follow without being told twice
  • Quality that holds up when you're off site
  • Hiring that sticks, with the right people brought on the right way
  • A business that makes real profit as it grows
Phase 3

Business owner: you build the strategy

Your team runs the operation. You're off the tools and you're not putting out fires every day. At this phase, your time goes into the decisions that set where the business goes: new services, key hires, better margins, or what comes next.

  • Clear visibility across the whole operation
  • A leadership structure that works without you in every decision
  • Decisions made with data, backed by experience
  • A business worth something without you on the tools

You're Not Alone

Kane Tyler Smith · Founder, Smartfix & Hypotential

You don't have to do it alone

If you're a builder in Perth who's gone out on your own, feeling the weight of running a business with no one to call, quoting in the dark and hoping the money adds up at the end of the month, I know exactly what your world looks like right now.

I started Smartfix with one ute in 2018 and grew it to 130+ staff across a lot of different trades. Along the way I employed and managed renovation teams, alongside electricians, air con techs and the rest of the team. The trade side was never the hard part. The business side was, and I created Hypotential so no builder in Perth has to work it out alone the way I did.

Smartfix has employed renovation teams in Perth, and I managed that team myself. This is coaching from someone who's run the business side of building and renovations for real.

I know the WA building market

I built Hypotential from running a real multi-trade business in Perth, competing in the same market you do.

  • Registration, insurance and compliance load on WA builders
  • Material price swings and supplier lead times
  • Subbie availability and rates in a busy Perth market
  • Progress claims, deposits and keeping cash flow steady

FAQ

Common questions

How do residential builders protect their margin?

Price every job from real costs, chase variations as they happen and keep a close eye on cash flow between progress claims. Most margin gets lost in the middle of a build, through extras nobody charged for and delays nobody planned for.

When should a builder hire a site supervisor?

When you can't be on every site and still quote, sell and manage the money. A good supervisor frees you up to run the business. Get your processes written down first, so they're supervising to your standard.

How do I manage subbies better?

Book them early, give them clear scopes and drawings, and pay on time. Subbies put the builders who are organised and pay well at the top of their list. A simple schedule shared with everyone saves a lot of phone calls.

Is business coaching worth it for a building company?

It's worth it if it improves how you price, schedule and manage cash flow, and pays for itself in margin. Look for someone who's actually run a trade business in Perth.
